Appointments In Oscar

It is recommended, before trying to understand Appointments in Oscar, that you understand at least the Overview of SchedulingInOscar.

Appointments can be made directly within Oscar's GUI "Day" tab, or from a patient's master demographic record.

Oscar's GUI "Day" tab defaults to display the current day for the logged-in provider or, if the user has set a preference, for any Group. The "Day" screen contains a pair of controls, the first being a selector in which to select individual provider schedules, or the schedules of any Group's members, in which case the member schedules are displayed as side-by-side columns. The second control is a hypertext control with two states, "Schedule view" or "View all". This commands whether to display only the individuals for whom a schedule had been defined (the default), or all individuals within a Group (if a group was selected) whether or not the individuals had a schedule defined. The column of individuals who had not been scheduled will display in gray, onto which provider name is appended "[not on schedule]".

Absence of a schedule having been applied can also be seen if you look at the right edge of a day's "times" column, and see no thin vertical Scheduling strip and its normally-included "Activity" codes.

It is possible in Oscar to book an appointment into a schedule grid area uncoded for that activity, even to make an appointment for a date and time for which no availability had yet been defined. Visually checking for such entries is possible within Oscar's GUI "Day" tab view, either by
  • clicking "View all" for the day of interest, for any provider who is selected, or who is among a current group or
  • clicking a provider's "Flip" view button (the radio button attached to their name) if the date of interest falls among the range shown

In the "Day" tab view, clicking the radio button left of a provider's name will "flip" to a row-column view (rows = dates, columns = times) which will display a full range of dates & times indicating whether or not the provider had been scheduled, along with any schedule grid information. See important caveat concerning flip grid's apparent failure to show a status of "unavailable". Clicking on a date will flip you back to the Day view.

Each appointment is presented on the schedule as a cluster of links (status icon, patient name, actions) that will advance (cycle) the patient visit status, open the Appointment info e.g. to update the reason or put in the exam room number, open their electronic summary, open the master demographic record, or a billing widget. The possible "statuses" of an appointment are "tTHPENC" evidently for tentative, Tentative (contacted/reminded), Here, Patient (or Positioned) in room, Examination, Nil else (gone)??, Cancelled.
